Saab/Nespresso Concept

Saab/Nespresso Concept

The Saab/Nespresso Concept is a study of an original vehicle that aims at blending the core values and images of the two brands. The author is Eric Leong from Umea University.

Created in 2010, this Saab-sponsored project aimed at developing a new vehicle taking inspiration from the product line-up of a non-automotive brand.

In this case design student Eric Leong chose Nespresso, a company owned by Swiss Nestlé Group that sells premium espresso machines and capsules for use at home.

Saab-Nespresso Concept The Concept features an original body style that mixes the characteristics of a coupé, a hatchback and a pick-up, featuring two small rear-doors and a rear loading area.

The general design language is easily recognizable as a Saab, featuring aviation-inspired elements, a wraparound DLO, the ‘hockey stick’ C-pillar and a descending, linear roofline reminiscent of the 9-X BioHybrid Concept.

Taking inspiration from Nespresso’s clever and green solutions, the designer has also introduced new stylish features that enhance the user’s experience.

These include a rear end that integrates a flexible, dual storage compartment and top deck panels that can be replaced by cushions to create an open-air, social environment.

The roof of the car is covered with solar panels which help power the owner’s house when the car is parked.
